During National Apprenticeships Week 2022, we are holding a virtual youth careers fair on Wednesday, 9 February 2022 from 10am to 6pm for people aged 16-30.
Join exciting workshops and inspirational talks from employers and organisations that provide pre-employment support to young people. This will be an opportunity to find out more about some practical things you can do to get into the world of employment, with training offers and employers from a range of sectors who have apprenticeship and job vacancies you can apply for.
This careers fair is for those aged 16-30 years. However, parents, guardians and those interested in the sessions can also attend, regardless of age.
Have a look at the range of virtual workshops we’ve carefully prepared and sign up to each one you want to attend - it takes a couple of minutes. They are all free and held on Microsoft Teams, which you will need access to through laptop/computer or the mobile app. Download the app on the Apple Store or Google Play

Mindfulness is a simple and powerful practice of training our attention. Join this short session to help you prepare for the day ahead.
Morning session 10am - 11am and evening session 5pm - 6pm.
Come and meet Ealing Council’s apprenticeship team and some of our apprentices to learn how an apprenticeship can benefit you. Find out what employers are looking for from current skills, knowledge and enthusiasm. Learn about the growth sectors and industries that you could become an apprentice in and how our apprenticeship team can help you get there.
10am – 11am
An insight in to SCS Joint Venture exploring the careers and opportunities in construction. Hear from a variety of people who will talk about their own experiences and pathways into the construction industry. You will also get the chance to ask questions.
Morning session 10.30am - 11am and afternoon session 12.30pm - 1pm
Delivered by University of West London, come to this session to learn how to complete your English and maths functional skills levels 1 and 2 at the university, free of charge.
Functional skills at level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE grade C, and an important qualification to have when applying for jobs and further study, but we know that considering or completing this course might not be easy. During this session, Alison and Francis will tell you all about the course and assessment, how to check you are eligible for a free place and the benefits of doing it.

It is important to find time to be healthy and happy. Come to this session for an insight into what we can do to protect our physical and mental wellbeing.
11am – 11.30am
Join us for this workshop to learn more about what options there are available if you are 18 and over, what key employability skills will help you get the job you want, good etiquette in the workplace.

An introduction to traineeships for 16–19-year-olds (year 12 and above as well as over 19). Find out more about this 12-week programme which includes work placements, employability and vocational qualifications, including a sports leaders award. It consists of:

Are you ready to learn the tricks of the trade of preparing your CV and cover letter so you can secure an interview? Come along to this workshop where a careers professional will help you navigate thought the process of preparing an excellent CV and cover letter.
11.30am - 12.00pm
Steps4success is a programme of targeted one on one support, workshops and training events. This session will bring you valuable careers information, advice and guidance that is key to encourage skills development and movement into work or training. Help is available with identifying and overcoming barriers (e.g., training, personal budgeting support).
Join this session to see what is on offer at West London College for you. This session will give you an insight into the apprenticeships, employability courses, courses for people not in education, employment and training (NEET) for those aged 16-18 as well as courses for adults.
11.30am – 12.15pm
The National Careers Service provides free and impartial careers advice, information and guidance. It is available to anyone over the age of 13 no matter what stage of your career journey you are at.

Employers often expect their employees to be respectful, hardworking and team players. These expectations can have several benefits, like keeping employees focused and motivated to stay on task. Join this session to familiarise yourself with some of these expectations and how they can help you prepare you for a new role or to advance at your current company.

Let’s Go Southall is a local initiative to get Southall more physically active. Develop leadership and team skills through community social movement campaign work, become a physical activity instructors or consider cycling opportunities as mechanics, ride leads or developing a career in low carbon transport.

Join us for this workshop where a careers professional will share useful tips and advice on how to not only effectively search for jobs, but also how to prepare for interviews.
Join this session to discover apprenticeships and vacancies that are available with TFL, when these vacancies will go live, as well as the deadlines so that you have enough time to prepare.

If you're 16 to 25 years old and interested in film, music, writing, drama, dance, business and marketing, this is the session for you. Hear from the youth charity Creative Mentor Network (CMN) about the free mentorship programmes they offer. Join us to find out more about CMN's programmes and how you can get to the next level of your creative career.

Find out how to kickstart your career in the media industry. Explore courses in radio, TV, digital, advertising and social media and see how you can connect with industry professionals via guest speakers, one-to-one mentoring and work experience.

Join this session for an introduction to the £1.5 billion Old Oak Common station project. Find out more about this ten-year build that will require a whole range of skills and jobs such as security, engineering, landscaping, electricians. You will also hear more about the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC).

Join this session for more information on Spear, a support programme for 16–24 year-olds. Learn how you can receive personalised support and practical advice to get into work, education or further training. Expect advice on CV, cover letter, interviews, networking, confidence building and professional communication.

4pm – 5pm
Learn a range of practical marketing strategies and techniques to either successfully launch a new business or grow your current small business.
If you are aged 16-24 and claiming Universal Credit, join this session to find out more about getting a six-month job with a local employer through the Kickstart scheme. These jobs are government funded and offer exciting opportunities for young people to gain valuable work experience.

Shaw Trust supports people into the workplace, especially those with complex needs. Join this session to hear about the various programmes and vacancies on offer.
